NFL Players Cleared for Flag Football in 2028 Olympics, Mahomes Likely Out

NFL players have received approval to participate in flag football during its inaugural appearance at the 2028 Summer Olympics. However, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is not expected to suit up for Team USA, as indicated by comments from Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com.
During recent spring meetings in Minneapolis, NFL owners unanimously authorized player participation in the Olympics, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. Mahomes has previously stated that he may not intend to compete for a spot on the Team USA flag football roster. This decision is understandable, particularly considering the potential risk of injury as Mahomes continues his career with the Chiefs.
While Mahomes may not be available, Team USA is likely to attract other elite quarterbacks from the NFL. Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, the reigning Super Bowl champion, expressed interest in the opportunity, acknowledging the prestige of representing the country and competing for a gold medal. Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow also expressed enthusiasm for the prospect, noting the challenges related to training camp obligations but affirming his desire to participate.
