Patrick Mahomes Likely to Sit Out 2028 Olympics Flag Football Debut

NFL players have been granted the opportunity to compete in flag football when the sport makes its debut at the 2028 Summer Olympics. However, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes may not be among the players representing the United States, as indicated by comments from Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com.
During recent spring meetings in Minneapolis, NFL owners unanimously approved the participation of players in the Olympics, according to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. Mahomes has previously expressed reservations about joining the Team USA flag football squad, citing concerns that are understandable given the risk of injury while he continues his career with the Chiefs.
Although Mahomes may not be available, other elite quarterbacks from the NFL could step up for Team USA. Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, who showcased flag football's inclusion in an advertisement for the Los Angeles Games, expressed interest, stating, 'I don't know if there's anything official. If we'd be able to participate but I know it'd be a great honor to be able to represent and have the opportunity to have a gold medal.' Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow also conveyed excitement about the chance to play, noting the complexities of balancing such participation with training camp commitments.
