NFL Players Cleared for Flag Football at the 2028 Summer Olympics

NFL players have received approval to participate in flag football during the 2028 Summer Olympics, yet Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has indicated that he may not compete. Comments relayed by Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com highlight that while NFL owners unanimously agreed on players' participation during their spring meetings in Minneapolis, Mahomes has expressed hesitance about joining the Team USA flag football roster.
Mahomes' reluctance to participate is understandable, particularly as he continues his career with the Chiefs and wants to avoid the risk of injury. Despite Mahomes not being a candidate for Team USA, other elite quarterbacks from the NFL are expressing interest. Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, the reigning Super Bowl champion, has shown enthusiasm about the opportunity, stating in a press conference, 'I don't know if there's anything official. If we'd be able to participate but I know it'd be a great honor to be able to represent and have the opportunity to have a gold medal.'
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has also expressed interest in the Olympic event, commenting, 'That's an exciting opportunity. I'm not entirely sure how that would work out with training camp and all of our obligations here, but that's something I would like to do for sure.' As the debut of flag football approaches, while Mahomes may opt out, Hurts and Burrow could be among those stepping into the spotlight.
