Jerry Jones Addresses Micah Parsons Trade Request Amidst Contract Negotiations

In a recent press conference, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones addressed the trade request made by Pro Bowl linebacker Micah Parsons. Despite Parsons' request, Jones indicated that he has no intentions of moving the player, reinforcing his confidence in the existing relationship between the Cowboys and Parsons. The discussion was prompted by negotiations related to Parsons' contract, which Jones explored in a video shared by Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Earlier reports from Clarence Hill of All City DLLS highlighted that the Cowboys had offered Parsons a contract that would set a record for a non-quarterback during negotiations in April. However, the talks broke down due to the absence of Parsons' agent in those discussions. Jones reassured fans, stating, 'I would say to our fans, don’t lose any sleep over this.' On social media, Parsons publicly acknowledged his trade request, revealing that he had instructed his agent, David Mulugheta, to seek an extension with the Cowboys ahead of the upcoming 2024 season, yet the team preferred to postpone negotiations.
Parsons further elaborated in his post that he had engaged in discussions with Jones regarding his contract in March; however, he did not initially consider the meeting to be a formal negotiation. 'Up to today the team has not had a single conversation with my agent about a contract,' he stated. While Jones characterized Parsons' trade request as part of the typical negotiation landscape in the NFL, he admitted to having had no dialogue with Parsons since the request was made. Jones emphasized the importance of contractual obligations when discussing the player's future, acknowledging the complexities that arise with potential new contracts. Presently, Parsons is positioned to play the 2025 season under a $24 million contract, having recorded no less than 12.0 sacks each of his four seasons with the Cowboys, despite a four-game absence in 2024.
