Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones Discusses Micah Parsons Trade Request

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones addressed the media on Saturday regarding the recent trade request made by Pro Bowl linebacker Micah Parsons. Jones emphasized that he is not considering moving Parsons, despite the linebacker’s expressed desire for a contract extension. In a video shared by Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Jones detailed the organization’s ongoing discussions with Parsons.
Reports have emerged indicating that in April, the Cowboys presented Parsons with a contract offer that would set a new record for non-quarterbacks. However, negotiations faltered, allegedly due to Parsons’ agent not being involved in the discussions. Despite this setback, Jones conveyed optimism about the relationship between the franchise and the standout linebacker, urging fans, "don’t lose any sleep over this."
Parsons had publicly announced his trade request in a post on social media platform X, stating he had instructed his agent, David Mulugheta, to negotiate an extension ahead of the 2024 season, but the Cowboys did not wish to initiate talks at that time. In his post, Parsons made it clear that he had previously discussed his contract with Jones in March, yet he did not view that conversation as a formal negotiation. Jones commented that Parsons' trade request is a common aspect of contract negotiations, reflecting on his lengthy experience in the league. He noted that the Cowboys’ current offer to Parsons is significantly more lucrative than what speculations might suggest. Despite acknowledging the trade request as routine negotiation chatter, Jones also mentioned that he has not communicated directly with Parsons since the request was made.
