Jerry Jones Addresses Micah Parsons Trade Request Amid Ongoing Contract Negotiations

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones remarked on Saturday that he is not contemplating the possibility of trading linebacker Micah Parsons, despite the Pro Bowler's recent trade request. During a discussion with reporters, Jones shared insights regarding the ongoing negotiations with Parsons, a video of which was disseminated by Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Earlier this year, in April, Clarence Hill of All City DLLS reported that the Cowboys had presented Parsons with a contract that would set a new record for non-quarterbacks, although negotiations stalled when Parsons' agent was not involved in discussions. However, Jones conveyed a sense of optimism about the Cowboys' relationship with Parsons, reassuring fans not to be overly concerned. He stated, 'I would say to our fans, don’t lose any sleep over this.'
On Friday, Parsons took to social media platform X to announce his request for a trade, revealing that he had instructed his agent, David Mulugheta, to pursue a contract extension with the Cowboys prior to the 2024 season. Unfortunately, he stated that the team was not interested in commencing negotiations at that time. In his message, Parsons noted that his previous conversation with Jones in March was not perceived as a formal negotiation, emphasizing that to date, no discussions regarding a contract had occurred with his agent. Jones acknowledged the trade request during his remarks, describing such situations as common elements in contract negotiations, drawing on his extensive experience in the NFL. He added that there were details surrounding negotiations that the public might not fully understand regarding what he had offered Parsons. Despite his assertion that the trade request was merely part of the negotiation process, Jones indicated he had not communicated with Parsons following the request, highlighting the complexities inherent in contract matters.
