Jerry Jones Addresses Micah Parsons Trade Request, Affirms Commitment to Linebacker

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones stated on Saturday that he has no intention of trading linebacker Micah Parsons, despite the Pro Bowl player's recent trade request. During a discussion with reporters, which was shared in a video by Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Jones elaborated on the ongoing negotiations regarding Parsons' contract situation.
In April, a report by Clarence Hill of All City DLLS revealed that the Cowboys had offered Parsons a contract that would establish a record for non-quarterbacks. However, negotiations reportedly stalled because Parsons' agent was excluded from the talks. Despite this, Jones expressed optimism about the relationship between the team and Parsons, reassuring fans that there is no cause for concern. 'I would say to our fans, don’t lose any sleep over this,' Jones remarked, according to Harris.
Parsons had announced his trade request in a post shared on social media platform X, explaining that he had instructed his agent, David Mulugheta, to pursue an extension with the Cowboys ahead of the 2024 season. However, he claimed the organization was not interested in commencing negotiations at that time. Parsons also mentioned a prior discussion with Jones in March regarding his contract, which he did not perceive as an official negotiation. He noted that, to date, the team had not engaged in any dialogue with his agent about a new contract. In regard to Parsons' trade request, Jones commented, 'That's negotiation. I've heard that so many times, in my 30 years in the NFL, from not just players but agents.' He added that discussions surrounding trades and contract issues are typical in the league. Addressing the meeting with Parsons in March, Jones suggested that the details of what was offered were not fully known, stating, 'What y'all don't know is what I offered him, and it's a hell of a lot more than you think I did.' Despite acknowledging the nature of negotiations, Jones indicated that he had not had any further conversations with Parsons since the trade request. He stated, 'At some point you do have to recognize that we’re talking about under contract here, which can diminish if somebody makes a new contract. It makes you wonder if they’ll honor that contract.' Parsons has made a significant impact in his four seasons with the Cowboys, registering at least 12.0 sacks each year despite missing four games in 2024. He is currently under contract for the 2025 season, valued at $24 million.
