Jerry Jones Addresses Micah Parsons Trade Request

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones addressed reporters on Saturday regarding Micah Parsons' recent trade request, emphasizing that he does not intend to move the Pro Bowl linebacker. In a video shared by Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Jones discussed ongoing negotiations with Parsons amidst the backdrop of a contract discussion that has not progressed as anticipated.
Clarence Hill of All City DLLS reported back in April that the Cowboys had extended a contract offer to Parsons that would set a record for a non-quarterback player. However, negotiations stalled after Parsons' agent was reportedly not involved in the discussions. Despite this, Jones reassured fans about the team's relationship with Parsons, stating, 'I would say to our fans, don’t lose any sleep over this.' Parsons made headlines on Friday when he announced his trade request via a post on X, expressing frustration over the lack of negotiations from the team regarding a contract extension ahead of the 2024 season.
In his post, Parsons revealed that he had tasked his agent, David Mulugheta, with pursuing an extension, but the team's unwillingness to commence negotiations at that point prompted his request. He also mentioned an earlier meeting with Jones in March, indicating that he did not perceive it as a formal negotiation session. 'Up to today the team has not had a single conversation with my agent about a contract,' Parsons wrote. In light of Parsons' trade request, Jones remarked that such requests are a common aspect of negotiations, recalling his decades of experience in the NFL. He noted that he had made Parsons a substantial offer, more than what was widely understood. Nevertheless, he acknowledged that he had not communicated with Parsons since the trade request was made. Jones also commented on the status of the contract, highlighting the importance of honoring existing agreements while considering potential new terms.
