Dallas Cowboys Micah Parsons Requests Trade Amid Teammate Support

Multiple players from the Dallas Cowboys have rallied in support of teammate Micah Parsons following his recent public trade request. Notable wide receiver CeeDee Lamb took to social media platform X, urging the Cowboys organization to compensate Parsons 'what you owe em'. Additionally, several of Parsons' teammates, including cornerback Trevon Diggs, linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, and safety Juanyeh Thomas, demonstrated their backing by updating their X avatars to feature a photo of Parsons.
Parsons, a standout pass-rusher, shared a detailed statement on X announcing his desire for a trade, expressing that he 'no longer want[s] to be here' in relation to the Cowboys. He indicated that he had made multiple attempts to negotiate a new contract with the team but was disappointed by the lack of communication from the organization after what he thought were informal discussions with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. Despite Parsons' expressed wish to be traded, reports from The Athletic's Dianna Russini indicate that the Cowboys currently do not intend to accommodate his request, though it is anticipated that other teams will still inquire about the situation.
At just 26 years old, Parsons was selected as the No. 12 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Penn State. He has spent all four seasons of his NFL career with the Cowboys, earning the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award in 2021, and securing four Pro Bowl selections along with two First Team All-Pro honors. He has also recorded three top-three finishes in the voting for NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Despite suffering injuries that limited him to 13 games last season, Parsons recorded 12 sacks, joining Hall of Famer Reggie White as the only players in NFL history to achieve 12 or more sacks in their first four seasons. Given his impressive performance and potential, Parsons could become one of the most attractive trade assets in recent years. If the Cowboys reconsider their stance and make him available for trade, the prospective team will need to be prepared to offer Parsons a contract commensurate with his standing among the league's elite pass-rushers, similar to contracts held by the likes of Pittsburgh Steelers' T.J. Watt and Cleveland Browns' Myles Garrett. Despite the Cowboys’ recent investments in contracts for players such as Lamb, Diggs, quarterback Dak Prescott, offensive tackle Terence Steele, tight end Jake Ferguson, and defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa, the lack of progress in negotiations with Parsons may signal a potential end to his tenure in Dallas.
