Micah Parsons Seeks Trade: Support from Cowboys Teammates Intensifies

In a significant development for the Dallas Cowboys, multiple players have publicly rallied behind teammate Micah Parsons following his recent trade request, made known via social media. Star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb emphasized the need for the Cowboys organization to compensate Parsons fairly, stating, "pay em what you owe em" in a post on X. Additionally, at least three of Parsons' teammates—including cornerback Trevon Diggs, linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, and safety Juanyeh Thomas—demonstrated their support by changing their X avatars to images of Parsons.
Parsons articulated his desire for a trade in a lengthy statement shared on X, expressing dissatisfaction with his situation within the Cowboys organization, noting that he "no longer want[s] to be here." He mentioned efforts to negotiate a new contract, indicating that he engaged in what he believed were informal discussions with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, yet the organization has not pursued communication with his agent regarding a new deal. Despite Parsons' assertions, reports from The Athletic's Dianna Russini have suggested that the Cowboys currently have no plans to accommodate his trade request, though interest from other teams remains likely.
The 26-year-old Parsons, selected as the No. 12 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft from Penn State, has dedicated his entire four-year career to the Cowboys thus far. His accolades include winning the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award in 2021, earning four Pro Bowl selections, and achieving two First Team All-Pro nominations, alongside securing three top-three finishes in the NFL Defensive Player of the Year voting. Though injuries limited him to 13 games last season, Parsons managed to record 12 sacks, marking him as only the second player in NFL history to achieve 12 or more sacks in each of his first four seasons, joining the legendary Reggie White. Given his impressive performance and youth, he could emerge as one of the most sought-after trade assets in recent NFL history. Should the Cowboys reconsider and make Parsons available for trade, the acquiring team would need to match his contract expectations commensurate with top-tier pass rushers like T.J. Watt of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns. The Cowboys have invested heavily in recent years, offering substantial contracts to players like Lamb, Diggs, quarterback Dak Prescott, offensive tackle Terence Steele, tight end Jake Ferguson, and defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa. However, the stagnation in negotiations with Parsons may indicate potential changes in his future with the Cowboys.
