Dallas Cowboys Players Show Support for Micah Parsons Amid Trade Request

Several players from the Dallas Cowboys have publicly expressed their support for teammate Micah Parsons following his recent trade request. Star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb took to X to advocate for Parsons, stating that the Cowboys should compensate him 'what you owe em.' Meanwhile, at least three of Parsons' teammates, including cornerback Trevon Diggs, linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, and safety Juanyeh Thomas, changed their X avatars to a photo of Parsons in solidarity.
On Friday, Parsons posted a detailed statement on X announcing his desire for a trade and noted that he 'no longer want[s] to be here' in reference to the Cowboys organization. In his message, Parsons revealed that he had attempted to negotiate a new contract with the Cowboys on multiple occasions. Despite what he perceived as informal discussions with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, the organization did not reach out to his agent to continue these conversations.
Despite Parsons' expressed desire to be traded, reports from The Athletic's Dianna Russini indicate that the Cowboys have no intention of accommodating his request, although it is unlikely to deter other teams from making inquiries. At 26 years old, Parsons was drafted 12th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft from Penn State and has spent his entire four-year career with the Cowboys. His accolades include winning the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award in 2021, securing four Pro Bowl selections, and earning two First Team All-Pro honors, in addition to three top-three finishes in NFL Defensive Player of the Year voting. Though injuries limited him to 13 games last season, Parsons recorded 12 sacks, making him one of only two players in NFL history, alongside Hall of Famer Reggie White, to achieve 12 or more sacks in each of their first four seasons. Given his impressive performance and youthful potential, Parsons is likely to be considered a highly coveted trade asset. Should the Cowboys reassess their stance on a potential trade, the acquiring team would need to offer a contract reflected in line with elite pass-rushers like T.J. Watt of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns. While the Cowboys have extended substantial contracts to players such as Lamb, Diggs, quarterback Dak Prescott, offensive tackle Terence Steele, tight end Jake Ferguson, and defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa in recent seasons, the lack of progress in negotiations with Parsons may ultimately lead to his departure from Dallas.
