Indianapolis Colts Honor Former Owner Jim Irsay with Jersey Patch

The Indianapolis Colts have unveiled a special jersey patch in memory of their late owner, Jim Irsay. The design, presented in a black-and-white theme, prominently features Irsay's initials along with his signature. This tribute follows the announcement made on May 21 regarding Irsay's passing at the age of 65.
Jim Irsay became the controlling owner of the Colts in 1995, succeeding his father, Robert Irsay, and remained in that role for three decades. Notably, Robert Irsay appointed Jim as the general manager of the franchise in 1984, making him the youngest GM in NFL history at just 24 years old—a record that still stands. Irsay was instrumental in pivotal decisions that shaped the franchise's future, most notably selecting quarterback Peyton Manning with the first overall pick in the 1998 NFL Draft. Although Ryan Leaf was regarded as a strong contender for the pick, Manning's selection ultimately proved to be a turning point, propelling the Colts to become perennial contenders and securing the franchise's second Super Bowl title in 2006.
Under Irsay's leadership, the Colts saw a significant transition from Manning to quarterback Andrew Luck in 2012, which further solidified the team's competitive stature, culminating in an appearance at the AFC Championship Game in 2014. Beyond the team's achievements on the field, Irsay was known for his deep passion for the franchise, demonstrating a commitment to the Colts' success that resonated with fans and players alike. Following his passing, Carlie Irsay-Gordon, one of Irsay's three daughters, is anticipated to assume a prominent leadership role within the organization.
