Charlotte Hornets Claim 2025 Vegas Summer League Title

In a thrilling championship contest, the Charlotte Hornets emerged victorious over the Sacramento Kings, clinching the 2025 Vegas Summer League title with a score of 83-78 on Sunday night. Kon Knueppel, the Hornets' No. 4 overall pick, was named the Most Valuable Player of the game, contributing a commendable 21 points and five rebounds.
Ryan Kalkbrenner added to Charlotte's success with 15 points and nine rebounds. On the opposing side, Isaac Jones put forth a strong performance for the Kings, recording 24 points and 11 rebounds, while Devin Carter supported with 13 points and seven assists. Jones had showcased his scoring prowess in Sacramento's semifinal victory over the Toronto Raptors, where he tallied an impressive 36 points, but he was unable to replicate that form in the championship matchup, as the Kings struggled with their shooting efficiency.
The Kings finished the game shooting just 36.5 percent from the field, making only 31 of 85 attempts, and were limited to 20.6 percent from beyond the arc, hitting just 7 of 34 three-point attempts. Despite not having a perfectly efficient night—shooting 8 of 21 from the field—Knueppel's overall impact was undeniable, as he helped the Hornets maintain control for most of the game. Charlotte led by as many as 11 points heading into the fourth quarter, and while the Kings attempted a late comeback, narrowing the deficit to three points with roughly five minutes remaining, they ultimately fell short. A dramatic exchange of three-pointers between Knueppel and Jones in the closing moments highlighted the intensity of the game, but the Kings could not overcome the final hurdle, allowing the Hornets to secure the championship.
