Cowboys Players Rally Behind Micah Parsons Amid Trade Request

Multiple players from the Dallas Cowboys have publicly expressed their support for star pass-rusher Micah Parsons following his trade request on Friday. Notably, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb took to X to urge the Cowboys to compensate Parsons 'what you owe em.' Furthermore, several of Parsons' teammates, including cornerback Trevon Diggs, linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, and safety Juanyeh Thomas, have shown solidarity by changing their X avatars to a photograph of Parsons.
In his detailed statement on X, Parsons conveyed his desire to leave the Cowboys organization, stating that he 'no longer want[s] to be here.' He clarified that he had engaged in discussions regarding a new contract with the Cowboys on numerous occasions but felt that his informal talks with team owner Jerry Jones did not yield any meaningful progress, as the organization did not follow up with his agent. Despite Parsons' aspirations to change teams, reports from The Athletic's Dianna Russini indicate that the Cowboys have no immediate plans to accede to his request, though it is anticipated that other franchises will reach out to explore potential trade opportunities.
Parsons, selected as the 12th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft from Penn State, has spent his entire four-year career with the Cowboys, earning accolades such as the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2021. He has also achieved four Pro Bowl selections and two First Team All-Pro honors, in addition to finishing in the top three for the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award on three occasions. Although injuries limited him to 13 games last season, he still recorded 12 sacks, making him the second player in NFL history to reach 12 or more sacks in each of his first four seasons, joining Hall of Famer Reggie White. Given his exceptional performance and age, Parsons is poised to become one of the most attractive trade assets in memory. Should the Cowboys reconsider their stance and make Parsons available for trade, any prospective team would need to offer a contract comparable to the deals given to elite pass-rushers like T.J. Watt of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns. In recent years, the Cowboys have issued significant contracts to players including Lamb, Diggs, quarterback Dak Prescott, offensive tackle Terence Steele, tight end Jake Ferguson, and defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa, but the lack of advancements in negotiations with Parsons could potentially signal the conclusion of his tenure in Dallas.
