Support Grows Among Cowboys for Micah Parsons Amid Trade Request

Multiple players from the Dallas Cowboys have rallied around teammate Micah Parsons following his public trade request. Star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb urged the organization to pay Parsons what he is owed, in a post on the social media platform X. Additionally, several of Parsons' teammates, including cornerback Trevon Diggs, linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, and safety Juanyeh Thomas, changed their profile pictures on X to honor Parsons.
On Friday, Parsons expressed his desire for a trade in a lengthy statement on X, declaring that he 'no longer want[s] to be here' with the Cowboys organization. He mentioned attempting to negotiate a new contract on multiple occasions, but despite having informal discussions with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, he indicated that the organization did not follow up with his agent.
While Parsons is adamant about his trade request, The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported the Cowboys have no immediate plans to accommodate his desire. Parsons, the 12th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Penn State, has had an impressive four-year tenure in Dallas. He received the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award in 2021, along with four Pro Bowl selections and two First Team All-Pro nods. Despite playing 13 games last season due to injuries, Parsons recorded 12 sacks, becoming one of only two players in NFL history to achieve double-digit sacks in each of his first four seasons, alongside Hall of Famer Reggie White. Given his talent and youth, Parsons has the potential to be one of the most coveted trade assets in recent memory. Should the Cowboys reconsider and make Parsons available, the acquiring team would need the financial capability to compensate him at a level commensurate with top pass-rushers like T.J. Watt of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns. The Cowboys have committed substantial contracts to several players recently, including Lamb, Diggs, quarterback Dak Prescott, offensive tackle Terence Steele, tight end Jake Ferguson, and defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa, yet the lack of progress with Parsons' contract situation might signal an end to his time in Dallas.
