NFL Players Set to Compete in Flag Football at 2028 Summer Olympics

NFL players have received clearance to participate in flag football during its inaugural appearance at the 2028 Summer Olympics. However, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes may not be among those competing, according to remarks shared by Matt Derrick from ChiefsDigest.com. This decision follows the unanimous approval by NFL owners for players to engage in the Olympic Games during their recent spring meetings held in Minneapolis, as reported by ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
Mahomes has previously expressed doubts about his involvement with the Team USA flag football team at the Olympics. His reluctance is understandable, given the potential risk of injury as he continues his career with the Chiefs. Nevertheless, Team USA's roster still has the opportunity to feature numerous elite quarterbacks from the NFL. Notably, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback and reigning Super Bowl champion Jalen Hurts has indicated his willingness to participate, as highlighted in an advertisement announcing flag football's debut at the Los Angeles Games.
Hurts commented, 'I don't know if there's anything official. If we'd be able to participate, but I know it'd be a great honor to represent and have the opportunity to have a gold medal.' This sentiment is echoed by Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, who also expressed interest in participating. Burrow remarked, 'That's an exciting opportunity. I'm not entirely sure how that would work out with training camp and all of our obligations here, but that's something I would like to do for sure.' As the countdown to flag football's Olympic debut continues, while Mahomes appears to be sitting out, Hurts and Burrow are among those who could potentially step up for Team USA.
