NFL Teams Set to Face Significant Dead Money in 2025

Several NFL teams are preparing to allocate a substantial portion of their salary cap towards players who are no longer on their rosters. Following the June 1 cut date, the finalized list highlights the teams expected to incur the highest amounts of dead money in 2025.
The San Francisco 49ers lead this category significantly, with a staggering $92.6 million designated for dead money. Notable portions of this figure include $34.1 million associated with wide receiver Deebo Samuel, $15 million for defensive end Arik Armstead, and $12.2 million stemming from cornerback Charvarius Ward.
Other teams in the top five for dead money include the Seattle Seahawks, Philadelphia Eagles, Jacksonville Jaguars, and the New York Jets. The Philadelphia Eagles, reigning champions, are notable for their commitments, including $16.4 million to retired center Jason Kelce, $16.2 million to edge rusher Josh Sweat, and $10.1 million to retired defensive tackle Fletcher Cox. Meanwhile, despite a challenging season ending with a 5-12 record, the Jets are facing significant dead money obligations of $14 million to quarterback Aaron Rodgers, $8.7 million to linebacker C.J. Mosley, and $8.3 million to wide receiver Davante Adams. It is worth mentioning that the majority of Rodgers' dead money will impact the Jets further in 2026, when the team anticipates owing $35 million in dead cap.
