New York Knicks Sign Mikal Bridges to Four-Year Extension

The New York Knicks and wing Mikal Bridges have reached an agreement on a four-year contract extension valued at $150 million, as confirmed by his agents Sam Goldfeder and Jordan Gertler. This extension includes a player option for the 2029-30 season and features a trade kicker, further indicating the Knicks' long-term commitment to Bridges.
Previously, there had been speculation among NBA executives that Bridges might have opted to play the upcoming season on an expiring contract in hopes of securing a deal approaching $200 million on the open market next summer. However, this contract solidifies his future with the franchise. The Knicks acquired Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets on June 25, 2024, in exchange for a significant number of draft picks, marking a strategic move to enhance their roster.
Bridges, who joined former Villanova teammates Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, and Donte DiVincenzo in New York, brings valuable experience and skill to the team. In his recent season with the Nets, Bridges averaged 19.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game, demonstrating his potential as both a scorer and a defender. Despite some inconsistency at times, Bridges played a crucial role during the Knicks' playoff series victories and contributed to the team's appearance in the Eastern Conference Finals, their first since 2000. His durability is noteworthy, as he has never missed a game in his seven-year career, further emphasizing his value as a key player in the Knicks' long-term plans.
