New York Knicks and Mikal Bridges Reach Four-Year Contract Extension

The New York Knicks have announced a four-year, $150 million contract extension with wing Mikal Bridges, as confirmed by agents Sam Goldfeder and Jordan Gertler. This deal, which includes a player option for the 2029-30 season and a trade kicker, reflects the Knicks' commitment to Bridges as a central figure in their roster moving forward.
Following trade discussions earlier this year, Bridges was initially acquired by the Knicks from the Brooklyn Nets on June 25, 2024, in exchange for a significant number of draft picks. This move reunited Bridges with his former Villanova teammates, Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart. Although Donte DiVincenzo was traded shortly thereafter alongside Julius Randle to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Karl-Anthony Towns, the core of the team began to take shape around Bridges. At the time of his acquisition, Bridges had two years and $48.2 million remaining on a four-year, $90.9 million contract he signed with the Phoenix Suns in October 2021, before being traded to the Nets as part of the Kevin Durant deal in February 2023.
As the Knicks’ primary scoring option during the 2023-24 season, Bridges averaged 19.6 points per game, shooting 43.6% from the field, along with 4.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.0 steals. Known for his defensive prowess, Bridges effectively complemented the gritty style of play that characterizes the Knicks. He continued to establish his significance in the 2024-25 season, averaging 17.6 points on 50.0% shooting, contributing to the Knicks' first Eastern Conference Finals appearance since 2000. With a remarkable record of never missing a game in his seven-year career, Bridges has logged an average of 35.8 minutes on the court over his last three seasons. Despite facing critiques for inconsistency at times, Bridges made critical contributions during the playoffs against the Detroit Pistons and Boston Celtics, although his performance in the subsequent Eastern Conference Finals against the Indiana Pacers was noted as overall underwhelming. Ultimately, Bridges has solidified his place on a formidable Knicks roster that shows promise for a legitimate championship challenge in the years to come.
