Support Grows for Micah Parsons Amid Trade Request

Multiple players from the Dallas Cowboys have expressed their support for teammate Micah Parsons following his public trade request made on Friday. Star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb urged the organization to adequately compensate Parsons in a post shared on X. In addition, at least three of Parsons' Cowboys teammates, including cornerback Trevon Diggs, linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, and safety Juanyeh Thomas, have changed their profile pictures on X to feature Parsons.
In a detailed statement posted on X, Parsons announced his desire to be traded, stating that he 'no longer want[s] to be here' in relation to the Cowboys organization. Parsons indicated that he had made multiple attempts to negotiate a new contract with the Cowboys, but after what he considered informal talks with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, he felt the organization did not engage with his agent.
Despite Parsons' trade request, The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported that the Cowboys have no intention of accommodating him at this time, though other teams will likely continue to inquire. Selected as the 12th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft from Penn State, Parsons has played his entire four-year career with the Cowboys. He earned the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award in 2021 and has accumulated four Pro Bowl selections and two First Team All-Pro honors, alongside three top-three finishes in NFL Defensive Player of the Year voting. Although injuries limited Parsons to 13 games last season, he still achieved 12 sacks, becoming only the second player in NFL history, alongside Hall of Famer Reggie White, to record 12 or more sacks in each of his first four seasons. Parsons' youthful talent and production make him an exceedingly desirable trade candidate. Should the Cowboys reconsider their stance on Parsons' availability, any interested team would need to offer a contract reflective of his status as one of the league's premier pass rushers, akin to contracts given to stars like T.J. Watt of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns. The Cowboys have recently awarded significant contracts to players such as Lamb, Diggs, quarterback Dak Prescott, offensive tackle Terence Steele, tight end Jake Ferguson, and defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa, but the stagnation in negotiations with Parsons may signal a potential conclusion to his tenure in Dallas.
