Terry McLaurin placed on physically unable to perform list by Washington Commanders

The Washington Commanders have officially placed wide receiver Terry McLaurin on the physically unable to perform list. McLaurin, a two-time Pro Bowler, had not reported to training camp initially as he was seeking a new contract. Reports indicate that he arrived at the team facility on Saturday, albeit with a lingering ankle injury.
With his arrival at the Commanders' facility, McLaurin is no longer subject to a daily fine of $50,000. Head coach Dan Quinn addressed the media, revealing that McLaurin's ankle issue dates back to the conclusion of the 2024 season. Discussions regarding a new contract will continue, and the Commanders have the option to remove McLaurin from the PUP list at any point during training camp. However, they must make a definitive decision on his status by August 26, the deadline for teams to trim their rosters to 53 players.
Should McLaurin's ankle injury necessitate an extended absence, he may be placed on the reserve/PUP list, which would require him to miss at least the first four games of the regular season. The 29-year-old receiver is coming off his fifth consecutive season with over 1,000 receiving yards, having recorded 82 receptions for 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns, in addition to 227 yards and three touchdowns during the Commanders' playoff run to the NFC Championship Game. McLaurin signed a three-year contract extension in 2022 worth over $68.3 million. Despite his consistent performance as a key component of Washington's passing attack, the escalating wide receiver market has seen his average salary of $22.8 million ranked 17th among NFL receivers, significantly lower than Spotrac's projected market value of $31.1 million. This situation remains unresolved, but McLaurin's presence at training camp suggests a continued interest in remaining with the Commanders.
