Tank Dell Faces Challenges After Knee Injury as Texans Advance in Playoffs
Houston Texans wide receiver Tank Dell has recently expressed the emotional strain of watching his team compete in the Divisional Round against the Kansas City Chiefs. Dell is unable to participate in the 2024 postseason due to a significant knee injury sustained during a Week 16 loss to the Chiefs, which has left him reflecting on the challenges he has faced.
In a heartfelt message, Dell acknowledged the difficulty of witnessing his teammates compete for a chance to advance to the AFC Championship Game. Coach DeMeco Ryans revealed that Dell suffered multiple injuries during a touchdown reception on December 21, including a torn ACL and a dislocated kneecap. Reports from KPRC2's Aaron Wilson indicated that the injury also involves MCL and LCL tears, along with meniscus damage, leading to a prognosis that suggests Dell's return in 2025 is unlikely. Dell recently shared a photo from his hospital bed, confirming that his initial surgery was successful, marking the beginning of a recovery process that may involve several additional procedures.
This injury marks a significant setback for Dell, who has experienced a string of injuries in his brief NFL career. Last season, he fractured his fibula in Week 13, which required surgery and led to his absence for five regular-season games, as well as two playoff appearances. Additionally, he faced a 'minor wound' from a shooting incident during a private event in April, which did not prevent him from returning for the Texans' offseason activities. As the Texans prepare to challenge the defending Super Bowl champions without Dell, quarterback C.J. Stroud is expected to turn to Nico Collins for support in their quest for victory.
