As the hockey season progresses, draft rankings are starting to emerge, even though we are still early in the campaign. The NHL Draft is set for June, and many leagues are actively contributing to the talent pool. Regular updates will be provided to monitor players whose draft stock is on the rise, as well as those who may face declines as the season unfolds. Recently, two players in particular have made headlines due to their explosive starts—Michael Misa and Porter Martone.
Michael Misa has garnered attention as the Ontario Hockey League's (OHL) Player of the Month for October. His performance has been nothing short of impressive, registering 18 goals and a total of 28 points in just 15 games, which positions him for a potential goal tally of 82 by season's end. This scoring streak highlights Misa's offensive prowess and determination to remain a focal point in this year's draft discussions. The Spirit Hockey forward has lit the lamp 17 times in 13 games, establishing himself as a key contender in the 2025 NHL Draft conversation.
Porter Martone, a forward for the Mississauga Steelheads, is also making waves in the draft rankings. Standing at 6'3" and weighing 207 pounds, he possesses the physical attributes that scouts admire. Martone has accumulated 32 points in 14 OHL games, with half of those being goals. His ability to score and physical style of play are notable, although some critics argue that he tends to shy away from aggressive engagement at times. Evaluating his play, it’s evident that while he has tremendous potential, refining his decision-making and physicality could elevate his game further.
In addition to these forwards, Cameron Schmidt of the Vancouver Giants is another name to watch. He has been prolific in his scoring, boasting 17 goals and 27 points in just 15 WHL games. Despite his smaller stature at 5'7" and 161 pounds, Schmidt's impact on the ice is significant. His current goal-scoring pace is impressive, although his shooting percentage of approximately 38% may not be sustainable. Nonetheless, his explosive skating and high-level shooting make him a valuable asset for any team eyeing the 2025 Draft.
Shifting back to the OHL, Cameron Reid of the Kitchener Rangers is making a name for himself on the defensive end. Though not yet on the rankings, his performance is worth noting. With 19 points in 16 games, Reid leads OHL defensemen in scoring. His recent selection for the CHL roster for the upcoming CHL-USA Top Prospects Game underscores his rising status. Reid's strong skating ability and scoring touch suggest he could easily surpass his offensive totals from the previous season.
Overseas, Victor Eklund has also emerged as a notable prospect. Initially included in Moneyline's Big Board, Eklund's recent performances indicate he could rise higher in the rankings. Having accrued 13 points in 15 games with Djurgårdens IF, his play showcases both speed and intelligent decision-making. With a natural hat trick last month, he is determined to make his mark independent of his brother, William Eklund of the San Jose Sharks. Victor's relentless drive and dynamic play make him a player to follow closely as the 2025 draft approaches.
