Inaugural 4 Nations Face-Off to Showcase NHL Stars

The inaugural 4 Nations Face-Off, featuring all-star teams comprised exclusively of NHL players, is set to commence Wednesday in Montreal. Competing teams will represent Canada, Sweden, the United States, and Finland. This event will unfold in a three-game round robin held at the Bell Centre in Montreal and later at TD Garden in Boston, culminating in a one-game championship on February 20. Each team has assembled a roster of 13 forwards, seven defensemen, and three goalies, marking the first NHL-focused best-on-best tournament since the World Cup of Hockey in 2016.
Among the players to watch is Linus Ullmark, the Swedish goaltender who was selected in the sixth round of the 2012 draft by the Buffalo Sabres. After signing with the Boston Bruins as a free agent, Ullmark has since established himself as one of the elite goaltenders in the league, evidenced by his 40 wins and a 1.89 goals-against average during the 2022-23 season, earning him the Vezina Trophy and a first-team All-Star selection. Ullmark has also represented Sweden in two world championships, contributing to a bronze medal finish in 2014 and a sixth-place finish in 2022.
Another notable participant is Patrik Laine, the forward who was the second overall pick in the 2016 draft. Laine began his career with the Winnipeg Jets, scoring 110 goals in his first three seasons, until a trade to Columbus and subsequently to Montreal. Since joining the Canadiens, Laine has scored 12 goals in 27 games following recovery from a preseason injury. With a powerful shot and an impressive frame, Laine has also excelled for the Finnish national team, recording 23 goals in just 30 international appearances.
Selected fourth overall in the 2020 draft, Lucas Raymond has consistently produced since his debut the following season. With 31 goals and 72 points in the 2022-23 season, he made the NHL's All-Rookie team and has maintained his point-per-game rate in the current season. Although not the largest player on the ice, Raymond compensates with impressive skill and two-way ability as a member of the Detroit Red Wings.
Kyle Connor, a 28-year-old forward hailing from Michigan, has become one of the league's most reliable goal-scorers, tallying over 30 goals in each of his full seasons since 2016. Connor's exceptional skating and shooting accuracy have led him to achieve 271 goals since the 2017-18 season, placing him eighth in the NHL in that timeframe. He has also donned the U.S. jersey in international competitions, contributing a notable 10 points across three tournaments.
Brady Tkachuk, the younger brother of Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk, has become an essential figure for the Ottawa Senators, exemplifying both scoring and physical play. Tkachuk has crossed the 20-goal mark six times and was pivotal in the United States' international efforts in various tournaments.

Matthew Tkachuk, who plays for the Florida Panthers, has become known for his scoring ability and tenacity. After winning a Pacific Division title with the Calgary Flames, Tkachuk transitioned to Florida, where he played a key role in securing the franchise's first Stanley Cup.
Victor Hedman, the towering defenseman for the Tampa Bay Lightning, boasts an illustrious career that includes multiple Norris Trophies and prominent international achievements. His physical presence and skill set have made him a mainstay at the top of the NHL among defensemen.
William Nylander, drafted eighth overall in 2014, has grown into a dynamic player with the Toronto Maple Leafs. His agility and offensive prowess became evident as he emerged with notable performances internationally with Sweden, including a standout showing at the 2017 world championships.
Rasmus Dahlin, chosen first overall in 2018, has quickly become a significant contributor for the Buffalo Sabres. His offensive output, combined with international success for Sweden, sets him apart as an emerging star in the league.
Jack Hughes, another first-overall pick, faced early career challenges but demonstrated resilience with a breakout 43-goal season in 2022-23. Hughes has proven his worth in international competitions, earning several medals over his career.
Sidney Crosby continues to be a paramount figure in the NHL as one of its all-time greats. Remaining productive at 37, Crosby's contributions extend beyond the ice, with memorable international performances, including his iconic gold-medal-winning goal at the 2010 Olympics.

His international contributions for Finland, including medals at the world championships, reflect his all-around skill.
