Great American Ball Park and Other MLB Venues Blanketed in Snow After Winter Storm Blair
The Cincinnati Reds recently shared images showcasing Great American Ball Park enveloped in a blanket of snow following the passage of Winter Storm Blair through the region. The snowfall led to nearly a foot of accumulation, with reports indicating 10.7 inches at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, according to WLWT 5 reporter Adam Burniston.
In addition to Cincinnati, other areas were also affected by the snowstorm, including Louisville. Aaron Cheris, the PR manager for the Reds' Triple-A affiliate, the Louisville Bats, shared an image captured at Louisville Slugger Field. He noted that approximately 6 inches of fluffy snow blanketed the field, comparing the substantial snowfall to previous winter conditions he observed in New York.
Snow coverage was not exclusive to Cincinnati and Louisville; Busch Stadium, home of the St. Louis Cardinals, also experienced a significant snowfall. Early January snow is not an uncommon occurrence at baseball venues. Historical precedents include the 2003 Baltimore Orioles famously playing an Opening Day game in snowy conditions and the 1996 New York Yankees' home opener against the Kansas City Royals, which also took place amid snowfall. Looking ahead, the upcoming MLB season, which features an early Opening Day on March 27, may potentially include more snow games, with the Cincinnati Reds set to face the San Francisco Giants.
