Wide Receiver Participation in 2028 Olympics: A Look at Player Perspectives

The position of wide receiver in the NFL is poised to generate significant attention regarding player participation in the flag football competition at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase emerges as a prominent candidate to represent Team USA, contingent upon his interest in the opportunity.
Chase expressed his uncertainty about participating when speaking with reporters, stating, "I want to hear more information about it. I want to know the timing for us, offseason, in season. I want to know if we're getting paid. I want to know where we are traveling every other week or every day, like all that plays a part, because we have an offseason, we have a life. How long would that be? I don't know. There's a lot of questions to it. I think it's pretty cool, but I'm not really 100% on it yet." In addition, while the NFL has confirmed that players will be permitted to take part, there are differing opinions about whether current NFL players should automatically secure roster spots for the event.
Darrell Doucette III, a former quarterback for Team USA's men's national flag football team, conveyed to Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post that he believes current players should have the chance to compete. He remarked on the long-standing experience and commitment of flag football players to the sport, emphasizing a shared goal of representing the country. Meanwhile, reactions among NFL wide receivers vary, with A.J. Brown of the Philadelphia Eagles noting he will not participate as the Olympics overlap with training camp. Conversely, Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings expressed a desire to win a gold medal for his country, calling it a "dream." Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins also displayed enthusiasm about the opportunity. The discussions also extend to potential college players, with notable names like Jeremiah Smith from Ohio State and Ryan Williams from Alabama emerging as possible candidates for Olympic involvement.
