Victor Wembanyama Bulks Up Ahead of His Third NBA Season

Victor Wembanyama Gears Up for Season Three with Added Muscle
As he enters his third NBA season, San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama is committed to enhancing his physique through rigorous training. In an appearance on Kevin Hart's Cold As Balls, Wembanyama revealed that he has added “probably like 30 pounds” since being drafted first overall in the 2023 NBA Draft.
Leading up to the draft, few had any criticisms of Wembanyama. However, one pointed concern was his ability to withstand the physicality of the NBA due to his frame. In an August 2022 analysis, sports journalist Jonathan Wasserman highlighted the potential vulnerability of Wembanyama's strength and durability, suggesting that the Spurs organization would likely consult medical experts regarding his biomechanics.
The topic of Wembanyama's weight has always been a sensitive one for him and his team. ESPN's Brian Windhorst and Jonathan Givony reported in February 2023 that discussions about his weight created discomfort for Wembanyama and his advisers. Without clear measurements available from the NBA scouting combine in May 2023, where he did not participate due to ongoing commitments with Metropolitans 92, his exact weight has remained somewhat of a mystery. He was listed at 237 pounds during the draft but is currently noted at 235 pounds on the NBA's official website.
Despite the weight concerns pre-draft, Wembanyama has proven to be a force in the league. He has consistently averaged a double-double while also leading the NBA in total blocks and blocks per game during his first two seasons. After a sophomore season_interruptBI_blood_clot set back, he was cleared for all basketball activities this past July.
With training underway, Wembanyama is set to make his return to the court as the Spurs prepare for their season opener against the Dallas Mavericks on October 22, 2025.
