Luka Dončić Set for Preseason Debut with Lakers Against Suns

Luka Dončić Ready to Shine in Preseason with Los Angeles Lakers
Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Dončić is gearing up to make his much-anticipated preseason debut against the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday. As reported by ESPN's Dave McMenamin, head coach JJ Redick has confirmed that Dončić is expected to take part in two of the team's final three preseason games after recovering from a calf strain.
Despite the Lakers playing three preseason games without him, Dončić's integration into the team comes after a significant offseason adjustment. Following his trade from the Dallas Mavericks, where he made a notable impact with averages of 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.5 assists per game during his last regular season, he is now looking to replicate that success in Los Angeles.
Last season, Dončić's performance escalated during the playoffs, where he averaged an impressive 30.2 points per game. However, the Lakers faced a setback in their playoff run, being eliminated in just five games by the Minnesota Timberwolves, which highlighted the challenges ahead for the franchise in reclaiming championship status.
Critics have raised concerns over Dončić's defensive capabilities throughout his career, especially in high-stakes playoff situations. The Lakers' trade to acquire him raised eyebrows, as it involved parting ways with elite rim protector Anthony Davis. This strategic move, however, was viewed as a long-term investment toward building a contending roster.
As the Lakers aim to re-establish themselves as championship contenders, the upcoming 2025-26 season holds significant importance. General Manager Rob Pelinka is expected to strengthen the supporting cast around Dončić, who must stay healthy and deliver MVP-caliber performances, especially with LeBron James slated to miss the start of the season.
