Ravens' Defense Under Fire Following Loss to Lions

Frustrations Bubble Over as Ravens Fall to 1-2
After suffering a disappointing 38-30 defeat against the Detroit Lions on Monday night, the Baltimore Ravens find themselves at a troubling 1-2 in the season. The frustrations are particularly palpable on the defensive side of the ball, prompting veteran cornerback Marlon Humphrey to speak candidly about the unit's struggles.
Following the game, Humphrey did not hold back, stating, "We're just not very good," highlighting the critical issues facing the Ravens' defense this year. According to his remarks shared by The Athletic, the Ravens allowed the Lions to dictate the game, saying, "They did whatever they wanted to do all night." The Ravens' defense was out-gained 426-318 in total yards, marking yet another instance of their inability to contain the opposing offense.
Defensive Decline Raises Concerns
It's been a glaring decline for the Ravens' defense, which previously ranked among the best in the NFL. Through three games, the Ravens now rank last in the league, allowing an average of 415.0 yards per game and 32.0 points, a stark contrast to last year’s performance where they allowed 324.2 yards and just 21.2 points per game.
Humphrey had voiced concerns even before the season commenced, questioning whether their division rivals, including the Cincinnati Bengals and Pittsburgh Steelers, still respect the Ravens' defense as they once did. He reflected on the past, noting, "When I first got here, obviously, the Ravens' defense, I felt like teams feared what we did." Now, amidst struggles, the players are eager to reclaim that fear factor.
The upcoming schedule does not offer a reprieve, as the Ravens will look to bounce back against the formidable Kansas City Chiefs, the three-time defending conference champions, in what promises to be a marquee matchup in Week 4.
