Nikola Jokić Leads MVP Race as Insiders Predict Fourth Award

Nikola Jokić Continues His Dominance in the NBA
Nikola Jokić, a powerhouse in the NBA, has already claimed three MVP awards, and the basketball world believes he may not be finished yet. According to a recent poll conducted by ESPN's Tim Bontemps among NBA insiders, Jokić emerged as the favorite for the upcoming season's MVP title.
With seven votes backing him, Jokić was the top choice among the panelists, followed closely by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander with five votes and Luka Dončić with four. Rising star Victor Wembanyama secured two votes, while Giannis Antetokounmpo and Anthony Edwards each received one.
What Makes Jokić a Top Contender?
One scout from the West has even described Jokić as "the best player" heading into the new season, reinforcing his position at the forefront of the MVP conversation. After winning back-to-back MVPs in 2021 and 2022, he claimed his latest award following the 2023-24 season. Despite finishing second to Gilgeous-Alexander in last season's voting, Jokić made a compelling case for his fourth MVP title.
Last season, Jokić showcased his incredible skills, averaging 29.6 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 10.2 assists per game — all of which ranked him among the top three in the league. Winning a fourth MVP would elevate him into an elite group, joining legends like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (6), Michael Jordan (5), and LeBron James (4).
Stiff Competition Awaits
However, Jokić will face stiff competition this season. Fresh off his first championship, Gilgeous-Alexander is keen on defending his MVP title, while other emerging talents like Dončić, Wembanyama, and Edwards seek to secure their inaugural MVP awards. As the season approaches, the excitement builds around who will ultimately take home this prestigious honor.
