NHL Mount Rushmore: Selecting the Top Players from Each Franchise Since 2000

In the realm of the National Hockey League (NHL), each team boasts players whose achievements stand out among their contemporaries. These players, who may include prolific scorers, adept defensemen, and exceptional goaltenders, are often considered the best in franchise history. They would earn a coveted spot on their team's 'Mount Rushmore'—a select group of four players representing the pinnacle of talent in the franchise. For teams with extensive histories, the challenge of limiting selections to just four players is considerable; conversely, franchises with shorter legacies may find this task more straightforward. This evaluation focuses on the past 25 years, beginning from the 2000-01 NHL season, ensuring relevance for today’s fan base. This timeline allows for consideration of players based on their performance, postseason achievements, contributions to their teams, and overall popularity among fans. Some athletes may appear on multiple teams' lists due to their multi-team careers. This also includes players from relocated franchises such as the Atlanta Thrashers (now known as the Winnipeg Jets) and the Arizona Coyotes (renamed as the Utah Mammoth).
Beginning with the Anaheim Ducks, notable figures include Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry, Teemu Selänne, and Jean-Sébastien Giguère. Getzlaf, who served as the Ducks' captain for 12 seasons, leads the franchise in games played (1,157), assists (737), and total points (1,019). Perry, a recipient of both the Hart Memorial Trophy and the Maurice Richard Trophy in the 2010-11 season, ranks second in franchise history with 372 goals and third with 404 assists. Selänne, now a Hall of Famer, spent a majority of his career (15 out of 21 seasons) with the Ducks, becoming the all-time leader in goals (457) and ranking second in assists (531) and points (988). Giguère, the Ducks' goaltending leader with 206 wins, made a hallmark achievement in 2023 by winning the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoff MVP. Together, they played vital roles in securing the Ducks' first Stanley Cup in 2007.
The Boston Bruins' Mount Rushmore features Patrice Bergeron, Zdeno Chára, David Pastrňák, and Brad Marchand. Bergeron has earned recognition as a six-time Frank J. Selke Trophy winner and ranks third in franchise records with 1,294 games played, 427 goals, and 1,040 points. Chára, another Hall of Famer, captained the Bruins for 14 seasons, winning the James Norris Memorial Trophy in the 2008-09 season. Both were integral to Boston’s 2011 Stanley Cup victory. Pastrňák stands out as the second Bruin to score at least 60 goals in a single season, and he took home the Maurice Richard Trophy in the 2019-20 season; he is fourth among NHL scorers with 391 points since his 2014-15 debut. Marchand, who also lifted the Stanley Cup in 2011, sits fourth in franchise history with 1,090 games played and 422 goals.
