Tim Tebow Expands Team Ownership with ECHL Franchise in Augusta, Georgia

Tim Tebow Takes the Ice: New ECHL Franchise in Augusta
Former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow is broadening his horizons in the sports world by diving into the ice hockey arena. On Wednesday, the ECHL announced that Tebow will serve as a co-owner of an expansion team in Augusta, Georgia, in partnership with Hodges Management Group CEO David Hodges.
A New Chapter for Augusta Hockey
The expansion application for the team has been approved, paving the way for them to officially hit the ice in the 2027-28 season. "I am grateful for the opportunity to bring hockey back to Augusta with our partnership group," Tebow expressed in a release. "We are excited to see this team bring people together from all over the country to enjoy camaraderie, competition, and community impact. Our desire is to make a positive impact both on and off the ice. We can't wait for the puck drop in October of 2027!"
Tebow's Growing Sports Ownership Portfolio
This marks Tebow's second venture into minor league ice hockey ownership, having been approved as a co-owner of an ECHL expansion team in Lake Tahoe, recently named the Tahoe Knight Monsters, just a few months prior in July 2023. Furthermore, he has also been a minor partner in the ECHL's Jacksonville Icemen and Savannah Ghost Pirates.
Broadening Horizons Beyond Hockey
In addition to his hockey aspirations, Tebow expanded his portfolio in 2023 by investing in Sporting Club Jacksonville, a USL Championship and USL Super League soccer club aiming for a 2026 debut. The Augusta expansion will elevate the ECHL to 32 teams, aligning it with the NHL and the AHL.
Exciting Future Ahead
The new franchise will call the New Augusta Arena home, a 10,500-seat venue currently under construction downtown, setting the stage for thrilling future games in the community.
