NFL Commissioner Discusses Future Expansion to 18-Game Regular Season
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has expressed the possibility of the league expanding its regular season to 18 games in the future. During an appearance on Bloomberg TV's The David Rubenstein Show: Peer to Peer Conversations, Goodell referred to the addition of an 18th game as a 'logical' progression for the league.
Goodell elaborated on the proposed changes, noting that the overall framework of the season would remain within a 20-week period. He indicated that this adjustment would involve a reduction in the preseason schedule from three games to two. 'We would keep within that 20-game framework,' Goodell stated, highlighting the progression from the previous formats of 16 games with four preseason matchups and currently 17 games along with three preseason games. 'So 18 and two is a logical step.'
The possibility of a longer regular season would likely have significant implications for teams, players, and the overall structure of the league. Fans and analysts alike are keenly observing how this potential shift could affect various facets of the NFL, from player health and safety to scheduling logistics.
