Mike Vrabel Addresses Stefon Diggs Video Amid New England Patriots Adjustments

New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel acknowledged the circulating video featuring wide receiver Stefon Diggs socializing on a boat with artist Cardi B and others during Memorial Day weekend. In a statement made to reporters, Vrabel emphasized the organization's commitment to making 'great decisions on and off the field' while addressing the situation.
This offseason, the New England Patriots secured Diggs with a three-year contract, aiming to bolster their receiver unit with a veteran presence. This acquisition holds particular significance as the team's primary objective is to optimize the performance of second-year quarterback Drake Maye. However, Diggs’ addition comes with its own set of challenges; he is currently overcoming the impact of a season-ending torn ACL injury he sustained during an October game while with the Houston Texans.
At his peak, the Maryland native has the potential to be a transformative force as a receiver. Diggs earned Pro Bowl selections for four consecutive seasons with the Buffalo Bills from 2020 to 2023, surpassing 1,100 receiving yards in each of those years and leading the league with 1,535 yards in 2020. Nevertheless, his injury limited him to just eight games during his tenure in Houston, where he recorded a commendable 47 catches for 496 yards and three touchdowns before his setback. As he prepares to return to the field with the Patriots, the team will look to see him regain the standout form he exhibited in Buffalo. If healthy, Diggs could emerge as Maye’s primary target within a receiver cohort that also features Mack Hollins, DeMario Douglas, Kendrick Bourne, and Kyle Williams. Vrabel’s hope for Diggs to act as a veteran leader is underscored by the importance of making wise decisions, particularly in light of the recent video.
