Mike Trout Set to Return After Injury, Aiming to Boost Angels Lineup

The Los Angeles Angels are aiming to revitalize their lineup with the imminent return of star outfielder Mike Trout. The 33-year-old, who has been on the injured list since May 1 due to a knee injury, is set to be activated ahead of Friday's series opener against the Cleveland Guardians. Trout sustained his injury while playing against the Seattle Mariners on April 30, landing awkwardly while sprinting to first base. Despite remaining in the game for part of the inning, Trout was later substituted by Jo Adell during the fourth inning.
Following the game, Trout was placed on the injured list two days later after being diagnosed with a bone bruise on his left knee, which has previously required surgery on two occasions last year for meniscus injuries. His initial injury occurred on April 29, and while he was in recovery, an MRI revealed another tear that necessitated surgery in August, ultimately concluding his 2024 season. In recent years, injuries have significantly affected Trout's playing time, with the outfielder missing at least 43 games each season for the past four years. The 2022 season was a notable exception, as he managed to play in 119 games.
Trout's ongoing physical difficulties have undeniably impacted his performance metrics. This season, he holds a batting line of .179/.264/.462 across 121 plate appearances. Although he has demonstrated his power with nine home runs—placing him just behind Aaron Judge upon his injury—Trout's ability to make consistent contact has been a challenge. His current strikeout rate of 29.8 percent marks the highest of his career. Nevertheless, even with a less dominant version of Trout returning, the Angels are in dire need of his offensive contributions, particularly as they look to end their streak of five consecutive losses. With a six-game road trip upcoming, featuring matchups against both the Guardians and Boston Red Sox, Trout's presence will be a pivotal factor as the Angels hope to regain their offensive momentum.
