Mahomes and Chiefs Secure First Victory of Season Against Struggling Giants

Chiefs Break Winning Drought with Strong Performance
In a much-needed turnaround, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs earned their first win of the season by defeating the New York Giants 22–9 on Saturday. This victory marks a significant comeback for the Chiefs, who started the season 0-2, a predicament they haven't faced since 2014.
Mahomes and Thornton Shine in Second Half
After a sluggish first half, Mahomes found his rhythm, finishing the game with 224 passing yards and one touchdown on 22-of-37 attempts. The quarterback connected with Tyquon Thornton for the team’s sole touchdown, showcasing the duo's capability to revive the offense. Meanwhile, Kareem Hunt contributed with a rushing touchdown, pushing Kansas City’s record to 1-2.
Giants Struggle Continue
On the other side, Russell Wilson and the Giants remain winless this season, falling to 0-3. New York's offensive issues persist, leading to increasing frustration among fans who are calling for rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart, their 2025 first-round pick, to take the helm as the team battles through the season's early challenges.
Game Highlights
The Chiefs opened the scoring with a 54-yard field goal by Harrison Butker, followed by another kick from 48 yards, granting Kansas City a 6-0 lead early in the second quarter. Despite an interception thrown by Wilson that could have set the Giants up for a score, New York managed to respond with a 13-yard touchdown run by Skattebo, although a blocked extra point kept the score within reach at 6-6.
As halftime approached, another interception by Wilson allowed the Chiefs to secure a 9-6 lead with Butker's third field goal before the break. The second half began strongly for Kansas City, highlighted by Mahomes’ touchdown pass to Thornton, which put the Chiefs ahead 16-9 entering the fourth quarter.
New York climbed back with a field goal from Graham Gano, but Kansas City quickly answered on their next possession, with a deep pass to Thornton setting up Hunt’s rushing touchdown, making it 22-9. In a last-ditch effort to score, the Giants reached a first-and-goal, but continued penalties and incomplete passes sealed their fate, allowing the Chiefs to secure the victory.
