Joel Embiid Returns to Action Against the Dallas Mavericks
Joel Embiid is set to return to the court on Tuesday after being sidelined for a month due to knee and foot injuries. According to NBA insider Chris Haynes, the Philadelphia 76ers star will play against the Dallas Mavericks this evening.
Coach Nick Nurse indicated that there will be "no hard restriction" on Embiid's minutes during the matchup, although he anticipates the center will play approximately 30 minutes. Last season, Embiid participated in only 39 games and has encountered increased injury challenges this year, appearing in just 13 of the 76ers' 48 games so far. Despite his limited time on the court, Embiid has demonstrated his capability by averaging 24.4 points and 7.9 rebounds per game, but this production has not significantly helped Philadelphia with the attrition of missed games.
Embiid's impressive performance two seasons ago saw him capture the MVP award, where he averaged 33.1 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. He continued to shine in his brief appearances last year, posting remarkable stats of 34.7 points and 11 rebounds per game. Alongside Embiid, the 76ers have also faced challenges, as Paul George has missed a considerable amount of time this season, and standout rookie Jared McCain suffered a season-ending knee injury in December. With Embiid's frequent absences, the 76ers have turned to Tyrese Maxey, who is enjoying a career year as a fifth-year point guard. Maxey's performance will be crucial for Philadelphia as they aim to recover in the playoff race, currently holding an 11th place standing in the Eastern Conference with a record of 19-29.
