NBA Rising Stars Challenge Rosters Announced
The rosters for the 2025 NBA Rising Stars Challenge have been finalized, with the event scheduled to take place on February 14 in San Francisco. The coaches selected for this year's event include NBA legends Tim Hardaway Sr., Chris Mullin, and Mitch Richmond. Additionally, Jeremy Lin will serve as the coach for the G League team. The honorary coaches conducted their draft on Tuesday to select their teams from a pool comprising 21 rookies and sophomores from the NBA.
Team Chris, coached by Chris Mullin, features standout player Stephon Castle from the San Antonio Spurs, who is having an impressive season with an average of 12.2 points per game. Castle, a product of the University of Connecticut, currently holds the top position on the NBA's rookie ladder. Another prominent member of Team Chris is Zach Edey, a big man for the Memphis Grizzlies, who is contributing significantly to the team's success in the Western Conference with averages of 9.8 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game. Edey's teammate, Jaylen Wells, a second-round pick, has also made his mark this season with an average of 11.4 points per game and has established himself as a starter for much of the year.
Looking at Team Mitch, Amen Thompson stands out as a key player. The former No. 4 overall pick has shown considerable development in his second year with the Houston Rockets, averaging 13.9 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.4 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game, positioning himself as a strong candidate for the Sixth Man of the Year award. Thompson's brother, Ausar Thompson, who plays for the Detroit Pistons, will join him on Team Mitch. Team Tim, coached by Tim Hardaway Sr., selected the top two picks from the 2024 draft, Zaccharie Risacher and Alex Sarr. Risacher is currently averaging 11.3 points per game with the Atlanta Hawks, while Sarr is posting 11.5 points and 6.6 rebounds per game for the Washington Wizards. Lastly, Team Jeremy features Mac McClung from the Orlando Magic G League, who has captured the NBA Dunk Contest title for the past two seasons. In addition to participating in the Rising Stars Game, McClung aims to extend his winning streak in the Dunk Contest to three consecutive years.
