Jets QB Justin Fields in Concussion Protocol: Week 3 Status Uncertain

New York Jets Star Faces Uncertain Future
New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields is currently in concussion protocol, raising concerns about his availability for Week 3. Head coach Aaron Glenn informed reporters on Monday that Fields' status is uncertain following a troubling performance in the Jets' 30-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills.
Injury Details
Fields' difficulties began when he was sacked by defensive end Joey Bosa early in the fourth quarter, prompting him to enter the medical tent on the sidelines before heading to the Jets' locker room. During his time on the field, the 26-year-old quarterback completed only 3 of 11 passes for 27 yards, along with 49 rushing yards on five attempts. Unfortunately, he also lost a fumble in the first half.
Looking Ahead
Fields' struggles in this game were particularly disappointing as they followed a strong opening match against the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he completed 72.7 percent of his passes for 218 yards and three total touchdowns.
Joining the Jets this past March on a two-year, $40 million contract as a free agent, Fields has had a history of injuries throughout his career. He missed several games in his rookie season due to an ankle injury and faced multiple absences last year from a separated left shoulder. The current season saw him limited to just 13 appearances due to a dislocated thumb.
As he navigates through the NFL's five-step concussion protocol, Fields' ability to practice or participate in games remains in jeopardy. Should he not be ready to go for the Jets' upcoming matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on September 21 at 1 p.m. ET, veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor is expected to take over the responsibilities under center.
