Giants Quarterback Tommy DeVito Facing Extended Time Out Due to Injury
New York Giants quarterback Tommy DeVito is poised to miss the upcoming game against the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving Day due to a forearm injury sustained during the team's 30-7 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Reports from ESPN's Adam Schefter and Jordan Raanan indicate that Drew Lock is expected to start in DeVito's place as he continues to recover.
Initially, DeVito's situation seemed uncertain; Raanan stated earlier that DeVito was considered a 'longshot' to participate in the Cowboys matchup. Further complicating matters, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo highlighted that DeVito would be traveling separately to Dallas to undergo additional testing on his forearm injury. Despite briefly leaving the game on Sunday after taking a hit, DeVito was unsure when the forearm issue arose, commenting, 'I don't really remember a specific play. It's kind of just adding up all the hits.'
As the week progressed, DeVito was listed as a limited participant in the Giants' injury report on Tuesday, although he did not appear on the initial report released on Monday. Given that the Giants conducted a walkthrough practice on Wednesday, the report was more of a projection than a reflection of actual practice participation, leading to DeVito being marked as not participating. Sunday was notable as it marked DeVito's first start of the season following the Giants' decision to release Daniel Jones. The 26-year-old quarterback, who had previously led the team to a three-game winning streak, has not replicated that success, with the Giants experiencing their third-worst offensive performance of the season in terms of total yards and points against Tampa Bay. Lock, who will take the helm, has made appearances in three games so far this season, attempting nine passes and completing four for nine yards. As he enters his sixth NFL season, Lock holds a starting record of 9-14, with a career total of 28 touchdowns against 23 interceptions. The Giants will face the Cowboys at AT&T Stadium on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. ET, seeking to break a road game losing streak against Dallas that dates back to Week 1 of the 2016 season.
