Derrick Henry Struggles with Fumbles in Ravens' Loss to Lions

Baltimore Ravens Running Back Derrick Henry Expresses Frustration After Third Fumble
Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry was visibly shaken following his team’s 38-30 defeat to the Detroit Lions in Week 3 of the 2025 NFL season. After committing his third fumble of the season, Henry described his emotions as "at a loss for words."
„It's just crazy,” Henry told reporters. “Three fumbles [in three games] straight. I'm trying every day to fix the problem that just keeps occurring. I'm my worst critic, so I'm not going to try to beat myself up too much. But it's hard not to when it's consecutive and consistent instances of me doing the same thing.”
The costly error occurred while the Ravens were trailing by four points in the fourth quarter, resulting in Henry losing the ball on his own 21-yard line. The Lions quickly capitalized on the turnover, with kicker Jake Bates booting a 45-yard field goal to extend the lead to 31-24.
This isn’t the first time Henry has found himself in this predicament. In Week 1, he fumbled during a crucial moment as the Buffalo Bills staged a 15-point comeback, leading to a narrow 41-40 victory for Buffalo. On that occasion as well, Henry expressed his remorse for the misstep.
However, Henry’s fumbles were just one part of the larger picture in Monday’s matchup. The Ravens' defense struggled significantly, allowing the Lions to rack up 426 total yards. Notably, Detroit’s backfield duo of David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs proved dominant, combining for 218 rushing yards and four touchdowns.
In a pivotal moment during the second quarter, the Ravens failed to capitalize on a 1st-and-goal opportunity at the 3-yard line, a decision that would later haunt them. Following Bates' field goal, the Ravens were unable to maintain possession, suffering a three-and-out that allowed the Lions to pull away with another touchdown from Montgomery.
While Henry’s mistakes were hard to overlook, the coaching staff will undoubtedly have plenty to analyze when reviewing the game film. The Ravens will need to regroup quickly as they prepare for their next challenge in the season.
