Colts Name Daniel Jones as Starting Quarterback for Week 1 Against Dolphins

Colts Settle on Starting Quarterback
The Indianapolis Colts have officially named Daniel Jones as their starting quarterback for the upcoming Week 1 matchup against the Miami Dolphins. Head coach Shane Steichen made the announcement on Tuesday, confirming that the 28-year-old Jones will take the reins over Anthony Richardson to kick off the season.
In his statement, Steichen emphasized, "He's the starting quarterback for the season," expressing a desire not to apply pressure with a short leash on Jones. This decision marks a fresh start for Jones, who is eager to prove himself after a tumultuous year with the New York Giants, where he started 10 games before being benched for Tommy DeVito.
After requesting and receiving his release from the Giants, Jones briefly joined the Minnesota Vikings, but his time there was unremarkable as he served primarily as a backup to Sam Darnold. However, he had the opportunity to learn under head coach Kevin O'Connell, recognized for his ability to develop quarterbacks.
Despite not shining in previous seasons, Jones has shown flashes of potential throughout his six-year career. The Colts have placed their trust in him as he aims to capitalize on this opportunity and guide the team effectively from under center as they prepare to face the Dolphins.
