Brian Daboll Remains Head Coach for New York Giants Ahead of 2025 Season
In an unexpected turn of events, Brian Daboll will continue to serve as the head coach of the New York Giants for the 2025 NFL season. Despite speculation regarding his job security following a challenging 3-14 season in 2024, team president John Mara confirmed that both Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen would retain their respective positions. Mara expressed confidence in the strategies and vision that Daboll and Schoen have implemented, stating, 'We remain confident in the process that Joe and Brian have implemented and their vision for our team.'
Daboll’s journey with the Giants began on a positive note, as he led the team to a 9-7-1 record in the 2022 season. This success culminated in a postseason appearance where the team triumphed over the Minnesota Vikings in the Wild Card Round, although they faced a significant setback against the Philadelphia Eagles in the Divisional Round. However, the following seasons proved more difficult, with the team recording a 6-11 finish in 2023, largely hampered by quarterback Daniel Jones’ season-ending ACL injury. By 2024, it became evident that Jones might not be the long-term answer at quarterback, further complicated by the departure of star running back Saquon Barkley to the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency.
Despite the struggles faced during the 2024 season, which included a distressing 10-game losing streak, Mara maintained his commitment to stability within the organization. In late October, he stated, 'Obviously we're all very disappointed with where we are right now... I do not anticipate making any changes in the offseason either.' However, pressures mounted as Jones was eventually benched and released, yet Mara remained steadfast in his decision regarding Daboll's position. As the Giants prepare for a pivotal offseason, they will enter the 2025 NFL draft holding the third overall pick, providing a unique opportunity to re-evaluate their roster and potentially select a promising quarterback. Rather than initiating a complete rebuild, the Giants seem poised for another season under Daboll's leadership.
