Tyrese Haliburtons Resilience Shines Amid Overrated Label

The narrative surrounding Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton has taken a notable turn as the two-time All-Star has embraced being called overrated. Throughout the 2025 NBA playoffs, Haliburton has played with a heightened sense of purpose, motivated by the critical assessment he received from his peers. To commemorate this unique perspective, Puma has introduced a T-shirt emblazoned with the phrase 'Overrate That.'
In a recent poll conducted by The Athletic's Sam Amick and Josh Robbins, Haliburton emerged as the leading vote-getter for the title of the most overrated player in the league. While the results generated significant headlines, the scale of the poll itself was limited, as only 90 players participated, a relatively small sample size in a league of over 400 players. Out of those responses, 13 players included Haliburton in their lists. Despite this label, the 25-year-old has maintained his composure, sharing with The Athletic's Jared Weiss that conversations with established stars like Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers and Jayson Tatum from the Boston Celtics have helped him develop what he described as an 'immunity to rejection.'
Haliburton acknowledged the weight of opinions from peers he holds in high regard, noting, 'For that poll, there's no names to faces. It's all anonymous. Having relationships with guys like Jayson and Joel, who are at the top of the game, their honesty is important to me. I respect their opinions more than anybody.' However, being labeled overrated can still impact a player on some level. As he has made key plays and engaged with fans during the playoffs, it is evident that Haliburton relishes the chance to prove his doubters wrong. Even if the Pacers were to reach the NBA Finals and face defeat against the Oklahoma City Thunder, the 'Overrate That' shirts would serve as a reminder of a memorable postseason journey.
