Tennessee Titans Rookie QB Cam Ward Named Team Captain Ahead of NFL Debut

Cam Ward Earns Captaincy as Titans' Newest Leader
Despite not yet stepping onto the field for his NFL debut, Cam Ward, the Tennessee Titans' rookie quarterback and the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, has already achieved a significant milestone. The team revealed the seven captains for the upcoming season on Wednesday, with Ward being included in this prestigious group. This makes him the first rookie captain for the Titans since Marcus Mariota in 2015.
During Mariota's rookie season, he threw for 2,818 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions, while the Titans struggled with a 3-13 record. Ward's appointment as captain showcases the trust he's built with his teammates and coaches, signifying a promising start to his career in Nashville, even before proving himself in regular-season games.
Ward, who gained recognition for his exemplary leadership skills during practice and off the field, is expected to transition these qualities into the competitive environment of the NFL. The Titans are coming off a disappointing 3-14 season, missing the playoffs for the third year in a row, and are hopeful that Ward can be the catalyst for change in the team’s fortunes.
Arriving in Nashville after a standout college career at Incarnate Word, Washington State, and Miami, Ward impressed last season with the Hurricanes, accumulating 4,313 passing yards and 39 touchdowns, ultimately being named a Heisman Trophy finalist. Although he had limited exposure in the preseason, completing 10 of 19 passes for 145 yards, the anticipation is building for his performance when the Titans kick off their season against the Denver Broncos on September 7.
