Projections for the Top 30 Second Basemen for the 2030 MLB Season

In the latest installment of the Moneyline '30 in '30' series, focus is placed on the second basemen projected to stand out by the 2030 MLB season. Predicting future stars at second base often proves challenging, as many top-tier players at this position arise from former shortstop prospects who have transitioned down the defensive spectrum. A notable example is Jackson Holliday, who was initially drafted as a shortstop yet has found himself adapting to second base in the majors.
This analysis considers both offensive production and defensive capabilities when evaluating potential players, but much of the assessment remains subjective, relying on projections of future performance. Prior to diving into the rankings, it is important to acknowledge the current veteran players expected to age out of stardom or could potentially change positions before reaching the 2030 season. The following veterans will not be featured in the rankings due to these anticipated developments: Ozzie Albies (ATL at age 33), Jose Altuve (HOU at age 40), Jake Cronenworth (SD at age 36), Jose Iglesias (SD at age 40), Brandon Lowe (TB at age 35), Ketel Marte (ARI at age 36), Jeff McNeil (NYM at age 38), and Marcus Semien (TEX at age 39).
Kicking off the rankings at number 30 is Termarr Johnson of the Pittsburgh Pirates, who will be 26 years old by then. Drafted fourth overall in 2022, Johnson is lauded for his exceptional hitting prowess. Currently only 20 years old, he experienced a moderate performance in the minors last year, accumulating a .237 batting average with a .366 on-base percentage across 124 games. Following him is Max Muncy, selected by the Las Vegas Athletics, who is also set to make an impact as he matures into his mid-20s following a promising start in Triple-A. Additional notable mentions in the rankings include players like Juan Brito, Nico Hoerner, and Thomas Saggese as they navigate the complexities of their career trajectories while aiming for a lasting presence in Major League Baseball.
