The Pittsburgh Penguins have officially unveiled their alternate uniforms for the upcoming 2025-26 NHL season. In an exciting reveal on social media, the team showcased the vibrant gold jerseys just before their highly anticipated home opener against the New York Islanders.

New Design Features

The Penguins will don these fresh gold uniforms 11 times this season, starting with their game on Thursday night. Notably, the new design includes a triangular shoulder patch that features three river waves, symbolizing the Allegheny, Ohio, and Monongahela rivers that converge in the city of Pittsburgh. This artistic detail pays homage to the city’s geographical heritage.

Additionally, the names and numbers displayed on the jerseys celebrate Pittsburgh's historic trolley car system, providing a nod to the city's rich history. Fans will also notice a label on the bottom backside of the uniform that features the iconic yellow bridge design, a hallmark of Pittsburgh’s landscape.

Historical Significance and Performance Goals

The gold color of the new uniforms is reminiscent of the jerseys worn by the Penguins in the 1980s, a period that marked the beginning of franchise legend Mario Lemieux’s career with the team.
