Buffalo Sabres Introduce 'Beer Sabre' Amid Ongoing Playoff Drought

Exciting Concessions for Sabres Fans
The Buffalo Sabres, who are currently experiencing the longest playoff drought in NHL history, are gearing up to enhance the game-day experience for their fans with a unique new concession option. In an exciting partnership with Labatt, the team has unveiled the 'Beer Sabre,' a novelty drink container shaped like a sword, designed to elevate the enjoyment of their new Blue & Blonde Ale.
The 'Beer Sabre' and 'Big Parm Thompson'
The 'Beer Sabre' is a long tube adorned with both Sabres and Labatt branding, offering a fresh twist on traditional hockey and baseball-themed drink cups. Fans can look forward to this fun addition during upcoming games. Additionally, the team has introduced the 'Big Parm Thompson' in celebration of star forward Tage Thompson, a known chicken parmesan fan. This hearty two-foot-long sandwich made a splash during the Sabres' season-opening game against the New York Rangers.
Struggles on the Ice
While these additions to the concession lineup may excite fans, the team has struggled to find success on the ice in recent years. The Sabres have not made the playoffs since the 2010-11 season, marking 14 years without postseason play—the longest such streak in league history. They narrowly missed out in the 2022-23 season, finishing just one point shy of the playoffs, but unfortunately regressed the following year, ending with the third-fewest points in the Eastern Conference.
Season Start and Injuries
The Sabres kicked off their 2025-26 season with a disappointing 4-0 shutout loss at home to the Rangers, facing significant challenges with four key players absent due to injuries. Defensemen Owen Power and Michael Kesselring, as well as forward Zach Benson and goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen were sidelined. Furthermore, first-line center Josh Norris sustained an upper-body injury during the game and will be out for a significant period, as confirmed by head coach Lindy Ruff.
The Sabres are set to face a tough test as they prepare for their next game against the rival Boston Bruins on Saturday night.
