New York City Honors Knicks Players with Temporary Street Names

New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced that several streets in New York City will be co-named to honor the current roster of the New York Knicks for the duration of the team's playoff run. Among those recognized is prominent guard Jalen Brunson, as 7th Avenue and West 11th Street has been designated as Jalen Brunson Boulevard. This announcement came just ahead of Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals, where the Knicks are set to host the Indiana Pacers.
During the announcement, Mayor Adams remarked on the honor bestowed upon the team, stating, "The Knicks embody the spirit of New York—resilient, passionate, and unstoppable. On the path to a championship, we recognize the hard work and determination that have brought this team to the Eastern Conference Finals. By co-naming our city streets, we allow all New Yorkers to celebrate their Knicks pride. Nearly 8.5 million New Yorkers, and millions more, are behind the New York Knicks as they continue this incredible journey."
The Knicks are making their playoff appearance in three consecutive seasons, facing increased expectations after being eliminated in the second round in each of the past two years. Having finished the regular season with a record of 51-31, the Knicks secured the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference, trailing only the Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics. They navigated a challenging first-round matchup against the Detroit Pistons before pulling off a noteworthy upset against the defending NBA champion Celtics, defeating them in six games. Now, they prepare for a rematch with the Pacers, who eliminated them in a memorable seven-game second-round series last season. This marks the Knicks' first appearance in the Eastern Conference Finals since the year 2000, and should they advance past Indiana, they would compete in their first NBA Finals since 1999, facing either the Oklahoma City Thunder or the Minnesota Timberwolves.
