New York City Honors Knicks Players with Temporary Street Name Changes

New York City Mayor Eric Adams has announced the co-naming of multiple city streets to honor the players of the New York Knicks during the team's ongoing playoff run. As part of this initiative, all 15 players currently on the Knicks' roster will receive recognition through street signs, with 7th Avenue and West 11th Street designated as Jalen Brunson Boulevard in honor of the standout guard. This announcement coincided with the lead-up to Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals, where the Knicks are set to face the Indiana Pacers.
In a statement regarding the decision to celebrate the Knicks, Mayor Adams remarked, 'The Knicks embody the spirit of New York—resilient, passionate and unstoppable. On the path to a championship, we recognize the hard work and determination that has gotten this team to the Eastern Conference Finals and we're celebrating this team by temporarily co-naming our city streets so all New Yorkers can celebrate their Knicks pride. Nearly 8.5 million New Yorkers, and millions more, are behind the New York Knicks as they continue this incredible journey.'
The Knicks are making their playoff appearance for the third consecutive season and face increased expectations following back-to-back second-round eliminations. As the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference, the team finished the regular season with a record of 51-31, placing them behind the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Boston Celtics. The Knicks navigated a challenging first-round matchup against the Detroit Pistons and caused a major upset by defeating the defending NBA champions, the Boston Celtics, in six games during the second round. They now confront a Pacers team that ousted them in a memorable seven-game series in the previous year's playoffs. This Eastern Conference Finals marks the Knicks' return to this stage for the first time since 2000, when they faced defeat against the Pacers in six games. The prior season, the Knicks triumphed over the Pacers in the same round, progressing to the NBA Finals. If they can successfully advance past Indiana, the Knicks will aim for their first NBA Finals appearance since 1999, potentially facing either the Oklahoma City Thunder or the Minnesota Timberwolves.
